C.J. Schmidt practices in the firm’s Litigation and Labor and Employment Practice Areas. He also served as Wood + Lamping’s managing partner for 11 years. C.J. has 35 years of experience handling general civil litigation with a concentration in labor and employment disputes of all types. He has extensive experience in federal and state courts, the Ohio Civil Rights Commission, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the National Labor Relations Board, the Department of Labor and arbitration panels. C.J. provides advice and counsel to small family-owned businesses, health care organizations, governmental entities, and Fortune 500 corporations in all manner of employment matters including hiring, terminations, leave, benefits, pay and unfair competition. He also has represented persons and entities in a wide variety of commercial disputes including non-competition agreements, breach of contracts, construction matters and ERISA matters. C.J. also has extensive appellate experience having argued appeals before the Ohio Supreme Court, Ohio appellate courts, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Third, Fourth, Sixth and Seventh Circuit.
C.J. and his wife, Betsy, reside in Hyde Park and have three grown children. C.J. serves on the Board of Advisors of the Goering Center for Family Business. He also serves as Corporate Secretary for the Craig and Frances Lindner Center of Hope. C.J. enjoys playing golf and paddle tennis in his free time. He is a native Cincinnatian and an alumnus of the University of Cincinnati.
