Ohio House Bill 96 (aka “the Budget Bill”) was signed by Governor DeWine on July 1, 2025, with a stated effective date of September 30, 2025. The Bill includes changes to the Notice of Commencement Statute.

In the first week of September 2025, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) took two important actions concerning the enforceability of employee noncompetition agreements.

ADUs are secondary residential units on single-family residential properties – think garage apartments, basement units, backyard cottages, or converted portions of existing homes. They’re also called “granny flats,” “in-law suites,” or “carriage houses.” They are currently a significant and hotly debated issue in Ohio’s land use and zoning landscape.

A key tax reform in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act of 2025 (OBBBA) encourages investment in small and emerging businesses by allowing founders and investors to reduce or eliminate tax on the capital gains from such investments. Specifically, the OBBBA expanded the definition of Qualified Small Business Stock to include more businesses and allow a greater exclusion — up to $15 million per investor, per company.
